SPRING & SUMMER TRENDS 2020

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

FEATHERS

feathers are T H R I V I N G right now and I am living for them. all types of feathers are in but one of my favs is ostrich feathers. the ostrich feathers are fluffie and bold. dresses that are all feathers are everything but there are some really cute sets that I have seen that have feathers on the trim of long sleeves and then on the hem of pants. feathers are statement pieces so keep that in mind when styling.

HOW TO STYLE: jean jacket with feather trim paired with basic top. top with feather trim paired with high-waisted jeans. feather details on shoes. jeans with feather hem and basic top.

BRA TOP & LINGERIE

freakie in the sheets, freakie on the streets. bra tops were super popular on the runways and will transition onto the streets. layering is a key component to this trend, DO NOT wear your average bra or push up bra...yikers. since this trend is so out there, there is a way to ease into it tastefully, think more bralette, satin, crochet bra tops. going along with this lingerie look, try incorporating corsets and bustiers into your wardrobe and even try letting garter straps on the corset hang down. a white button down would be a good essential to play around with as a layer under a bra top. SKIN IS IN. babes to find more inspo for this trend watch the Vera Wang Spring 2020 Ready-To-Wear show because she highlighted this trend. lingerie is the new outerwear on the runways so let’s get kinkie and break down how to dress for this trend. think sheer, lace, high slits, skin, bra-tops, satin.

HOW TO STYLE: bra-top under a blazer, a bustier/corset over a white button-down. bra-top paired with long skirt, bra-top with high-waisted pants. sheer tank top over a shirt. slip dress with high slit. bra-top under a sheer shirt.

POLKA DOTS

polka dots are so classy and so spring. you can double-trend with this pattern which means you can have a piece of clothing that checks off two of the trends on the list ex: polka dot clothes that are satin, sheer, a bra-top, or have cutouts!!

HOW TO STYLE: simple polka dot dress. sheer polka dot sleeves top paired with high-waisted jeans, polka dot set (top and skirt). polka dot midi skirt with white top.

FRINGE & LEATHER

okay let’s talk fringe!! first, sooo fun to twirl around in. second, keep an eye out for fringe skirts, dresses, and handbags. a lot of the fringe pieces just have fringe on the bottom which is super cute and subtle. leather was obvi on fire last fall and winter and we still can’t get enough of it this spring. colored leather is the CEO of spring 2020 so get your hands on some pieces, especially a colored leather trench coat. speaking of trench coats, they were strut all over the runway so keep that in mind as a trend. also don’t neglect leather on shoes or purses!!

HOW TO STYLE: leather trench coat with mini dress underneath. simple white top with leather pants. a dress with leather shoes. fringe dress with sneakers. white button-down with fringe or leather skirt.

SATIN

this fabric is everything right now. satin is so chic, smooth, and elegant. aside from my satin robe obsession, I am literally the CEO of slip dresses. they are so sexie and I can’t wait to wear a satin dress under a trench coat during spring. for some inspo on incorporating satin into your closet watch the Gucci Spring 2020 Ready-To-Wear show, they nailed that collection, specifically watch for look for slip dresses that consists of satin, sheer, and lace. like polka dots this fabric will be easy to double-trend.

HOW TO STYLE: satin button-down dress with square-toed shoes or sneakers. satin long sleeve shirt with high-waisted jeans, t-shirt with satin midi skirt. satin slip dress under trench coat.

CUTOUTS

minimal cutouts were hot on the runways. to see more of this trend, I recommend watching the Off-White Spring/Summer 2020 show. personally, I think cutouts can look trashy if not styled right, but cutouts can be hot to show off your sexie bodies when you go out. let the cutouts do the talking and be the focus of your fit.

HOW TO STYLE: long sleeve with cutout and high-waisted jeans. a dress with cutouts paired with simple shoes. swimsuit with cutout.

TRENDS TO MENTION:

  • PUFFY SLEEVES

  • TIERS

  • HIGH SLITS

  • SHORT SHORTS

  • SEVENTIES

  • EARTHY TEXTURES AND PATTERNS
